Kamal Haasan-Mani Ratnam reunite for a new project !

Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan's "Nayagan" directed by maverick director Mani Ratnam completes 25 years recently. "Nayagan" changed the style of making gangster films in India. The performances of lead stars, amazing screenplay and realistic story backed by brilliant direction by Mani Ratnam brought a realistic appeal to the film.

After Nayakan's runaway success, both actor and director became too big in stature to be accommodated in one film despite being family. Mani Ratnam married Kamal's elder brother Charu Hassan's daughter Suhasini. It was only when Nayakan completed a quarter of a century that Kamal and Mani spoke at length and decided their collaboration would have to happen 'now or never' .

Kamal has said that he spoke to Mani and they both are planning to reunite in a new project. He said that he would not be able to divulge any other details regarding their conversation. The film will not be related to "Nayagan', he said adding that it would be a Hindi-Tamil bi-lingual.

Interestingly, as of now, the two stalwarts have agreed to work together only in principle and a final decision regarding the project is subject to acquisition of a mutually acceptable script. Incidentally, Mani's 'Alaipayuthey' has created waves at the Berlin Film Festival. The Germans went ga ga over the film and it was given a special midnight screening. Western critics have hailed it as "a riot of color".
